After driving through the electrifying storm we finally arrived at the Chai Temple to perform at Peats Ridge. What a great festival - regardless of the weather everyone was suitably chilled! Many thanks to all who braved the mud and rain to see us perform (next time we will remember to take our gumboots!) and Happy New Year!
MALADAY FAMILY FUNDRAISER
It was wonderfully uplifting to be a part of the community fundraiser for Dominique Maladay and her children. At last count, $20 000 had been raised which is remarkable. The Bangalow community really is unique and we feel very grateful to be embraced by such a supportive and spirited town. It was great to open for Ash Grunwald and hear his highly fuelled set. Thanks to Wal, Michael Malloy, Corey and Michael Pelmore for all their efforts in making the evening such a success.

COONAMBLE
Soundcheck at the Plaza Theatre
We performed at the Plaza Theatre in Coonamble. What a building! We thank everyone for stepping out in such grisly weather - in particular our special guests all the way from Dubbo - Noni and her delightful family and of course our sensational cousin Jeremy & Anne! Thanks to Sandra, Chris and the lovely Sam Newstead from Outback Arts for having us at her lovely homestead. With the amount of rain we had...we proceeded to get bogged! Very funny morning!
Melia, Sam Newstead and Nerida
Some serious Gulargambone mud!
BOURKE
Henry Lawson once said 'If you've been to Bourke, you've seen Australia.'
The 'back o' Bourke' was a melting pot of people from all over the country and we felt hugely supported and appreciated by all those in the audience at the Old London Bank. Massive thanks to the imaginative Andrew Hull who warmed the crowd with his thought provoking spoken word pieces and then invited us to the stage with the most innovative introduction: 'Naughty Naughton sisters singing for their soda.' Kristy gave a heartfelt thank you to all those who had supported the Arts Council throughout the year and we felt so grateful to hear her words.
Thank you Bourke...we shall return!
NYNGAN
We arrived into Nyngan and it was 42 degrees! Thankfully our lovely room at the Beancounters Guest House was fabulously air conditioned. We had an absolute blast at the Christmas Party. It was so nice to meet everybody! Ian & Richard - you are wonderful, generous and lovely! See you soon!

WILCANNIA
Outside the Art Centre with Paul Brown.
Where else would we stay! Separate bedrooms!!
Wilcannia inspired us. We arrived in the heat of the day to be warmly greeted by Paul Brown. We were even given
separate bedrooms! (We think Paul realised we were spending too much time together and needed a break!) In that heat the only thing to do is swim! So we joined all the school kids down at the pool to refresh and revive. Big thanks to Grace, Gloria, Caitlin and Evelyn for showing us the ropes, racing against us and teaching us how to hold our breath for as long as possible! That evening we performed at the Art Centre to a beautiful and responsive audience. We thank you for inviting us to your town and for inspiring us. Paul and Lyndal your hospitality was so appreciated and we hope to return to Wilcannia soon.
BROKEN HILL

Big thanks to Tim Westcott and Marilyn Harris for making our time in Broken Hill so enjoyable. We performed with the Broken Hill Community Voices Choir at Theatre 44 and met some really talented great people at our workshop. We were even in town for the Annual Christmas Pageant - what fun!

Our host Tim Westcott at the Living Desert; Silverton
Tim took us up to the Living Desert to see the amazing statues and we also visited the Regional Arts Gallery and Silverton. Donkeys, history and the Mundi Mundi Plains made for a fascinating journey to the remote west.
THE GREAT MURRAY RIVER

So we drove to Mildura. We spent the night in Grenfell - birthplace of Henry Lawson - to head into the outback past Hells Gate. Very long, flat, long, did we mention long roads? We passed many harvesters and drove into many swarms of locusts...they really like the grill!
We finally arrived in Mildura and saw our first sign to Broken Hill. That was a very exciting moment here in the Scarlett car!
We then saw the mighty Murray River. We couldn't resist a steamboat excursion through the Lock II and up the river. A very relaxing and educational journey aboard the Rothbury. Tomorrow we head to Broken Hill - so we will keep you posted with all our updates!

Oooh...did you see the fabulous G-String jewells Miss Melia is wearing whilst travelling up the Murray? Made exclusively by Waterfall Glass for our Real, Raw & Regional Tour...don't they look great. We have even written a G-String song...!
MALADAY FAMILY SUPPORT REQUIRED

ON THE ROAD...
We have hit the road to Broken Hill. We've discovered Gulgong and Mudgee (many thanks to Russell, Kate, Jack & Ruby for hosting us at the farm) and will stop to pick up a spare tyre in Bathurst (it could only be a road trip!) before following the Murray River to Mildura.
See you in Broken Hill...
DUBBO
Melia, Nerida, Clitie Murdoch from NB Management, Sally Roberts from the Milestone Hotel and our lovely cousin Jeremy.
We played at St Brigids Church Hall in Dubbo on Friday night amidst a thunder storm but what a beautiful night it was! Aaron Martin opened for us and he played a stunning set of original tunes under the fairy lights and candelabras, all made possible with the assistance of Clitie Murdoch. A big thanks to our roadie for the evening our cousin Jeremy, the Milestone Hotel and Sally Roberts, Star FM, Dubbo Photo News, The Daily Liberal, ABC Radio, Natalie Bramble Management, Something Borrowed, Noni, and of course St Brigids Church Hall. We had a really dazzling night in Dubbo - massive thanks to all those who were in attendance.
Our next show is in Broken Hill - stay tuned as we head west! To the outback we head...
GLOUCESTER

We arrived into Port Macquarie & spoke with Fiona Wiley on ABC Mid North Coast in preparation for our performance in Gloucester. What a lovely town Gloucester is - and what a community! We were greeted by Sue at A Room With A View with a much needed cup of tea and delicious biccies before we discovered the Senior Citizens Centre. GACCI - Gloucester's Arts Council put on a fabulous and intimate evening. Our sincerest thanks to Gina, Chris, Maureen and Leanne for all your help. The show began with the incredibly talented Jemma Wilkinson who has a beautiful voice. Next on the stage was Alex Leighton - who had us in stitches with his comedy sketch about a 'dumped' teenage boy. They set the scene beautifully and we were delighted they could join us.

Welcome to Gloucester; Our Tour Van!

Melia, Jemma Wilkinson & Nerida post show; Melia, Chris from GACCI & Nerida at the Art Gallery
We really enjoyed our stay in Gloucester and look forward to returning soon. Many thanks to Chris for waking up at the crack of dawn to let us in to the Art Gallery before opening hours. What a great exhibition. Check out the Gloucester Advocate article.

HEARTS & SCARVES... Scarlett on Tour!
Once we played the first two shows of our tour (Cronulla & Sydney) we hit the road south to Canberra. As soon as waved goodbye to Sydney the temperature dropped once again, the rain started and the wind...oh the wind!
We had a competition to see who would see snow first...and as we descended upon Canberra there it was...a dusting of snow on the surrounding mountains.
Our first port of call was to ABC Canberra...it was midday and here is proof that it was ONLY 6 degrees!
We arrived early (extraordinarily) to our interview with Adam Shirley at ABC 666 Canberra. We had a great chat and performed 'This Time' & 'Tri-Colour Hair'. Many thanks to the team at ABC for inviting us.
We drove directly to Parliament House to pay our respects to the Hon. Peter Garrett...by this stage the chill had reached deep within us...it was freezing!
We then drove to Mawson for the third show of our Hearts & Scarves Tour at the Folkus Room. (It was actually lightly snowing at this point!) Many thanks to all who shared what turned out to be a very special evening for us gals! We're not sure if we were jinxed... (earlier we had discovered a problem with MY guitar which required technical support) but electricity decided it was not needed on this particular occasion. Three songs in we started experiencing very weird surges coming through the system, loud electrical bangs and cracks were deafening...poor Kevin at the sound desk was doing everything within his power to fix the problem...and then...the mixing desk blew up! Thanks to the quick thinking of Bill Arnett (Folkus Room) he invited us to sit amongst the audience and continue the show acoustically.
What could have been an absolute disaster of a night actually turned into one of the most special evenings we have ever known. Thank you to everyone in the room who despite the fabulous Serbian dance party next door listened to our songs in their rawest form. There was an incredible energy in the room... created by everyone in it so thank you for sharing such a special night with us. Special thanks to Bill, Kevin & James (Folkus Room) and extra special thanks to Karina & Mike - you guys are very special. p.s. we were given some incredible earrings...they are stunning...check out Veruca Star Designs
The tour wouldn't be complete without a night time drive in the country where we of course (accidently) hit a wombat (it was a little bit like dodgem cars there were so many!) we promise the wombat was fine (he sort of just bounced off) and thankfully the car was also okay! We are home safe & sound now...so thank you all for supporting the Hearts & Scarves Tour. The tour continues into Queensland with the following dates:
Mad Arse Folk Club
Thursday/17/July 9:00PM
at the Muddy Farmer Hotel
Annerley, QLD
